St. Michael's
Junior Buzzers Spring Hockey Program

The historic Blue M of the St. Michaels Buzzers has
signified integrity, success and hockey excellence since
1933. These principles will be the foundation of our spring
hockey program
designed for the elite hockey player with the purpose of
them having fun
and developing
their skills in an
equal and fair play
environment
Program
-
Program will consist of one team at each level for
players born from 1998 to 1990. As some of these teams
are "club" teams - if enough interest is present a
second team may
be instituted.
-
Program will last for 8 weeks from Monday April 24th,
2006 (The week after AAA tryouts) until Thursday June 16th,
2006.
-
All teams will have the choice at participating in either the Junior level program or the Senior level program. The choice of levels will be at the coaches discretion.
Teams
-
Each
team will comprise of 17 players – 2 goalies – 6
defensemen and 9 forwards (based on coaches discretion)
to allow for the inevitable conflicts that these boys
will have during the spring.
-
Only
top coaches with the highest integrity who have the same
philosophy about how the game should be taught and
played will be considered for our program. The complete
list of coaches for each level will be released by
January 2nd, 2006 (see coaches list)
-
All
players must play at their own age group and their will
no deals made on registration to any players –
regardless of their caliber.
-
There
will be no tryouts for our program as we do not want to
be a disruption to the existing winter programs. Players
that apply will be evaluated during their practices and
games during the winter.
Fun/Non-threatening environment
In to many cases, our current hockey system stymies the
development of elite hockey players for a number of
reasons………
-
Too
many incompetent coach’s who are worried about their own
agenda, about making side deals in exchange for ice
time, letters on the sweaters and specialty team play.
-
There
are too many teams at the AAA level translating in a
lack of elite competition and too many meaningless
games.
-
Players are afraid to get creative and make mistakes as
that could translate into reduced ice time.
-
Too
many players are playing for teams that they do not want
to be a part of but cannot get a release and too much
time is being spent on worrying about where they will be
playing next year.
-
Hockey
should be fun – fun – fun – fun. This in on longer the
case with many of today’s.
The Junior Buzzers Spring hockey program will do the
following to insure that our Mission Statement is the goal
of our program and that our integrity will never be
compromised.
-
Coaches will not be allowed to shorten the bench during
a game under any circumstances.
-
Coaches or any parents will not keep statistics and will
not have specialty power play or penalty kill team.
-
No
deals OF ANY KIND will be made with any players.
-
No
teams will have captains or assistant captains.
-
To
stress the team aspect of the game – no player’s names
will be back of the sweaters.
-
Players that disrespect the coaches during the game or
are not working on the ice will be asked to leave the
program with a full refund.
-
Players will be encouraged to make mistakes, think out
of the box and get creative without any implications to
the amount of ice time that they get in the next game.
Coaches will focus on skill development and the cognitive
side of the game.
