We finally are catching up with all the backlogged multimedia items...pictures are now on the Multimedia page for the past three games (Stouffville, Vaughan, Collingwood) plus a replay version of the BuzzLive broadcast this past Friday and a CityTV news item from Friday as well. Items still in the pipeline and expected to be up Monday night are some photos from the Banner and Ring ceremony, 2005 NHL Entry Draft video clip, and possibly a cut-down version of the BuzzLive broadcast (without the 'dead' air)

TORONTO, ON (SMCS) - The last time the St. Michael's Buzzers took on the Collingwood Blues, the Blues stole two points from the OPJAHL Champions in the Buzzers first bus trip of the season. Sunday night started off looking like the Blues were going to repeat their effort and take another two from the Buzzers. But the Buzzers would have none of that - and mount a remarkable comeback in the second half of the game.
The first period of play would be scoreless between the Blues and Buzzers. Both teams would exchange a pair of power-play opportunities but neither team would capitalize with the extra player.
As quiet as the first period was on the score clock, the second period would more than make up for it. The first half of the second frame would see the Blues get four goals from the Buzzers with two of those coming on power play efforts. After the first ten minutes the Buzzers began to wake up and take exception to the score in their home arena. The Buzzers' Mike McKenzie (Brendan Smith, Stephen Duffy) would kick off the comeback at 11:02 on the power play. Exactly three minutes later, the Buzzers would break the Blues back with a short-handed goal. Louie Caporusso and John Scrymgeour would catch the Blues too deep and drive towards the Blues net. With the Blues defense pressuring, Caporusso would pass across the front of the net to Scrymgeour (Caporusso) who would bang the puck blocker-side past the Blues goaltender. Just under four minutes later, Caporusso would again find the inside of the Blues twine and bring the Buzzers within one goal of the Blues. Not being satisfied with that one goal deficit, Caporusso (McKenzie) would amazingly score again just 33 seconds later in the dying moments of the second period. The second would close off just as the first did - all knotted up - except now momentum was clearly behind the Buzzers.
The second intermission would recharge the Blues who would successfully stopper the Buzzers attack for the first half of the third period, but their defensive effort would hobble their ability to get a goal of their own. The Blues came close to getting their fifth goal of the night, but solid play from Buzzers Goaltender Mike Binnington and the rock-solid Buzzers defensive corps would keep the Blues at bay. During one of those defensive moments, the Buzzers penalty killing unit would be on the hunt for a second short-handed goal of the night. The same PK unit that bagged a shorty in that period would get the second short-handed goal of the night. This time Scrymgeour would combine with McKenzie to score the go-ahead goal for the Buzzers at 11:48 in to the period. Both teams would battle though the rest of the third period - without any additional goal successes. The Blues would take pull their goaltender in dying moments of the third to get the extra attacker advantage but the Buzzers would take advantage of the open net when McKenzie (Caporusso) would get the puck from Caporusso in the neutral zone and skate it down with Scrymgeour three strides behind for safety and drop it in the Blues net and ending the game with a final score of 6-4.
After returning home for two games, the Buzzers hit the road again for another pair. On Tuesday the Buzzers meet up with Oshawa for the first time this season at the Oshawa Civic Centre (7:30 PM start) and then on Friday the Buzzers will cross over to the North Division again and take on the Couchiching Terriers at the Rama MASK Arena (7:30 PM Start). The Buzzers then return home for a Sunday night match up against the Markham Waxers in a widely anticipated contest. Game time Sunday is 7:00 PM at SMCS Arena. Sunday's game will be broadcast on BuzzLive.

AJAX, ON - Sunday afternoon was game eight of the seemingly endless road stand the St. Michael's Buzzers have been on since their only home game on September 7th. Today's game would be one of the most productive though for the Buzzers on the scoreboard and would secure the team's first shutout of the season and second consecutive hat trick in as many games.
The first period would be a boring affair in the Buzzers' defensive end with goaltender Mike Binnington seeing minimal puck action on about six incursions by the Attack inside the Buzzer blue line. The Buzzers would dominate the Attack offensively, but be unable to produce a single goal in the first period. The spirited Attack defense kept the Buzzers away for the first twenty minutes, but it would remain to be seen if they could keep the intensity in the following periods.
The intensity seen in the first period from the Attack defense would turn dramatically to frustration in the second period. The Buzzers would get their first of many goals on the day just 35 seconds in to the period from Louie Caporusso (Stephen Duffy, Brendan Smith). Under four minutes later, John Scrymgeour (Mike McKenzie) would take a shot from the slot and past Attack goaltender Nunzio Presta. The Buzzers newest player, Cassidy Preston (Duffy, Scrymgeour), would notch his first goal as a Buzzer on a shorthanded effort after being assigned by the St. Michael's Majors this past Friday. Fred Cassiani (Tyler Sgro, Andrew Rygiel) would get his second goal of the season taking the Buzzers up by 4. The fifth and final goal of the period would come from Louie Caporusso (Rory Smith, Richard Ryan), his second of the night, with just 23 seconds left in the period. The Buzzers would go on the powerplay over five times but would not be able to capitalize on the frustration penalties Ajax was handing them.
The third period would pick up right where the second left off - more scoring and more penalties. While the Buzzers couldn't muster any goals by the PP unit in the first or second period, they would nearly score all their goals on the powerplay in the third. Kicking off scoring just under half-way through the period, Julian Zamparo (Rygiel, Harry Taylor) would take a monster shot from the point that would blow past an unprepared Attack goaltender. Cassidy Preston (Angelo Asaro) would get back in to scoring action for his second of the game on a last millisecond re-direction followed on quickly by another goal from Julian Zamparo (Rygiel, Cassiani), his second of the period and night. Stephen Duffy (B. Smith) would take a page from Zamparo's book and take his own monster shot from the point and blow it past the Attack and find the inside of the twine. With just 10 seconds left on the clock, Louie Caporusso (Rygiel) would repeat his closing efforts of the second period and score his third goal of the night and get the Buzzers second hat trick in as many games. Buzzers goaltender Mike Binnington would secure the first Buzzers shutout this season turning away 16 quality scoring chances by the Attack.
The Buzzers prepare to take on the Stouffville Spirit [1-1 in preseason action against Buzzers] Thursday night in their last game of the nine game road stand. Friday sees the road warriors returning back to the friendly confines of the St. Michael's College School Arena Friday night for what will be one of the great moments of this season - the raising of the 2004-2005 Championship Banners and Ring Ceremony. Extra special guests will be on hand for the ceremony. Details are contained in a press release announcing this major event!

We have more former Buzzers signing in to post reports under our Grad Watch section. Since last time we have Jeff Kyrzakos (OHL Owen Sound Attack) and Kevin Schmidt (Bowling Green State University Falcons) dropping messages. Check it out...Press on current and former Buzzers keeps rolling in. Hot off the press is an article that appeared in the Pickering News Advertiser about #19 John Scrymgeour's efforts in Wednesday nights game in Pickering. From around the Internet we have a follow-on piece from BGSU about Kevin Schmidt and the Inside College Hockey Article featured earlier and an article from the Michigan Daily about some proposed NCAA hockey rule changes where Andrew Cogliano gets tagged for quotes. Check out the News Archive for those articles...As mentioned yesterday October 7th will be the Championship Banner ceremony before the Buzzers face off against the Vaughan Vipers in what is only the second home game this season. We won't say who the special guest is just yet, but we do expect a significant dignitary at the game and ceremony. We're all excited for this major event...you should plan to be there!

PICKERING, ON - In what was one of the more bizarre nights this season, the St. Michael's Buzzers met up with the Pickering Panthers at the Pickering Recreation Complex Wednesday night. The Buzzers went in to Wednesday with 11 points on a 4-2-1 record and Pickering with 8 points on a 4-2 record so far this season. Before the game was done Wednesday there would be two hat-tricks, arena staff falling on the ice, strange people from the street walking on to the ice during the game among a very busy penalty night for the on-ice officials.
In the first period the Buzzers got off to their usual rocket start scoring their first goal just twenty seconds in with Louie Caporusso (Julian Zamparo) showing enduring patience in picking the right moment to flip the puck in the net past the Panther's sprawled out goaltender. On the power play, the Buzzers would get their second of the night when John Scrymgeour (Harry Taylor, Zamparo) would chip in for his first goal of the night.
The second period would have the same rocket start as the first period. Just under a minute in, Scrymgeour (Caporusso, Mike McKenzie) would combine to take the Buzzers up by a commanding three goal lead. Continuing on with the all-Buzzers scoring show, Andrew Rygiel (Caporusso, Scrymgeour) would get his first goal as Buzzer just over thirteen minutes in to the period. With the four goal lead it looked like the Buzzers had a safe ride to the finish line, and eased up on the offensive pressure on the Panthers. That would be all the room the Panthers would need to get their first goal of the night. The Buzzers would answer back with their first hat trick of the season - John Scrymgeour (Caporusso, McKenzie) would get the fifth Buzzers goal of the night and his third of the game. Pickering would get one more before closing off the third period.
After a brief medical delay on ice at the close of the second intermission, play resumed with what appeared to be a shift in the tide to Pickering's favour. Pickering would score two goals in quick succession with significant intensity in front of the Buzzers goaltender Kain Tisi. The second goal for the Panthers would be a short handed goal which would give Justin Fox the Panthers hattie for the night. The Buzzers would answer back with a short handed goal of their own just under two minutes later with Mike McKenzie (Scrymgeour) balancing the scoresheet. The Buzzers would get two more goals on the night, both on the powerplay with late game penalty action taking a toll on the Panthers. The first goal would come from Andrew Rygiel (Mike Forgione) his second of the night and then Aaron Dileo (Rory Smith, Rygiel) would get the eighth Buzzers goal for the night just before being sent to the showers for some after-whistle fisticuffs. More action would ensue as time wore down on the clock but the final score was set - for the 8-4 win for the Buzzers.
The Buzzers take a few days off from game action - the next game is in Ajax against the Ajax Attack on Sunday afternoon. Game time in Ajax on Sunday is 3:00 PM. The Buzzers will then be set for their homecoming game - after their grueling nine game road trip. This home game will be one of the most special games in Buzzers history as it will feature the 2004-2005 OPJAHL Championship Banner raising and Championship ring ceremonies. There will be special dignitaries on hand for this storied night. Details for the event will follow on Monday October 3rd. Mark your calendars now to be there!

TORONTO (SMCS) - The St. Michael's Buzzers finished off one of the most hectic weekends for this season. Playing three games in less than 2.5 days, the Buzzers faced a grueling schedule - division rivals Markham and Vaughan on days one and two and then at the Governors Showcase on Sunday, the last year's west division powerhouse, the Oakville Blades.
On Friday night at the Markham Centennial Centre, the Buzzers came up against a fully charged Markham Waxers squad with a singular goal in mind, knocking off the League Champion in early season play. The energy the Waxers would expend Friday night would cost them dearly in play on Saturday sending them to resounding defeat against the Milton Ice Hawks at the Governors Showcase.
Saturday the Buzzers would head over to Vaughan's Al Palladini Recreation Centre to take on the Vaughan Vipers. Natural rivals, the Vipers hoped to capitalize on what they thought was a weakened Buzzers squad - but found that the previous night's game in Markham had given the Buzzers new life. After a grueling scoreless first period the Buzzers would be the first to get in to the scoring column with a rocket of a slapshot from John Scrymgeour (Mike McKenzie, Stephen Duffy) from the top of the face-off circle just two and a half minutes in to the period. The Vipers would answer back with two goals of their own and take the single-goal lead. Getting back in to his scoring groove, Mike McKenzie (Brayden Irwin, Jeff Taylor) would chip the loose puck glove side past Vipers goaltender Martin. The Buzzers would keep the scoring flow going in to the third period with rookie Brendan Smith (Irwin, Scrymgeour) getting his first regular season Junior A goal just under four minutes in to the third on the powerplay. Brayden Irwin (McKenzie, Andrew Rygiel) would give the Buzzers some breathing room with a two point lead. The rest of the game would fall to the shoulders of the Buzzers defensive corps - who stepped up to shut down the Vipers attack. Key to the defense was Kain Tisi returning to form and turning in a classic goaltending effort, turning away 43 of 47 shots on the night.
Barely having enough time to have their jerseys dry, the Buzzers would hit the ice Sunday at high noon to take on the Oakville Blades at the Governors Showcase. With a small army of scouts looking on - the Buzzers would have to dig deep to take it to the Blades who had a day's rest before this Sunday matinee. The Buzzers would again get on the scoreboard first, again mere moments in to the period. Just 20 seconds in, Julian Zamparo (McKenzie, Scrymgeour) would get his second goal this season. Oakville would start the see-saw scoring pattern with a goal of their own before the Buzzers John Man would net his first goal of the season at 13:08. Again the Blades would answer back before the end of the period, closing the frame at two goals each.
The second period would see two Buzzers ejected for checking from behind in what seemed to be a balancing act for two Blades being ejected for the same infraction earlier in the game. The period would see a few more penalties, but neither team could take care of converting extended powerplay opportunities in to goals. The only goal in the period coming on a full strength effort from Stephen Duffy (B. Smith, Irwin) early in the second.
The third period would see the Buzzers take the only penalty but it would not allow the Blades to convert the man advantage. The Blades however would get the last word in regulation scoring with under three minutes remaining and sending the game in to overtime. The extra frame would see most of the action in the Blades defensive end, with the Buzzers putting extra on extra effort to score the extra point. Taking a time out with just 26 seconds left, the Blades would plot strategy for a face off in the Buzzers end, but would not manage to gain from their planning session with the game ending in a tie.
The Buzzers have now earned a day off and will return to game action Wednesday night in Pickering to meet the Panthers for the first time this season. This game may be audio webcast, depending on availability. Details will follow by Tuesday night.

MARKHAM, ON - In what was billed as the game of the night by many in the league, the St. Michael's Buzzers arrived at the under-construction Markham Centennial Centre with the intent of renovating the Waxers 5-0 record. They succeeded - but not in the way they intended.
After starting the game with what was the most whistle free game so far this season, the Buzzers took an interference penalty which the Waxers took full advantage of in just under thirty seconds. It wouldn't take the Waxers long go up by two. Two face-offs and and 13 seconds would be all the Waxers would need to make the score 2-0 for the home team.
Markham would repeat their first period effort with their power play and penalty killing units notching one goal each. In the closing moments of the second, the Buzzers Rory Smith would line up with Waxers Daniel Torres for the fight of the night. Torres with an extra three inches in height and 23 pounds in weight would find the lanky Smith a surprising handful with the video replay of the fight showing a draw.
The third period would see the Waxers getting their requisite two goals again by their PP and PK units. Something snapped in the Buzzers, perhaps the Waxers taking two goals while the Buzzers were on the power play, but the Buzzers put together a late game rally scoring two goals and stealing the shutout from Markham's Kyle Russell. The first goal came when Tyler Sgro (Andrew Rygiel, Louie Caporusso) would go high-glove side on Russell and find the back of the net. The second came just 41 seconds later with the Buzzers putting incredible pressure in front of the net. With the pressure on and Waxers number 4 Matt Clark interfering with his own goaltender, Fred Cassiani (Richard Ryan) would take a quick one past the jammed up goaltender.
The Buzzers look to regroup once again for the second act of this three act weekend when they take on the Vaughan Vipers Saturday night at the Al Palladini Community Centre in Woodbridge. Game time Saturday is 7:45 PM.

KLEINBERG, ON - The St. Michael's Buzzers Third Annual Fall Golf Classic went off without at hitch Thursday afternoon and evening at the Kleinberg Golf and Country Club.
